Prominent ears can be a source of embarrassment. Ear surgery or otoplasty in Virginia Beach is a reshaping procedure that can create a more natural ear shape and ear position.
During the consultation Dr. Hubbard carefully evaluates ear position and shape. He explains what folds may not have developed properly or what parts of the ear overgrew. Each ear, with its unique shape, requires a unique plan. The plan includes cartilage reshaping, often partial removal and suture control or positioning.

Is Otoplasty for Me?
People who feel that their ears that are too large or whose ears protrude too far from the head can benefit from otoplasty. Individuals who are dissatisfied with the shape of their ears are also good candidates for surgery.
During Your Procedure
Dr. Hubbard makes an incision behind the ear to access the underlying cartilage, but little or no skin is removed. Then, carefully pre-planned zones of cartilage are weakened so that they bend the proper amount and sometimes excess cartilage is removed. The new shape is held with sutures beneath the skin. In adults, this surgery is done under local anesthesia and most individuals can drive home following their procedure.
Healing after Surgery
A dressing that wraps around the head is worn for 4 to 5 days. Oral medication easily controls any discomfort. Most people can return to work in 6-7 days but exertion and exercise must be avoided for 3 weeks. An elastic headband is worn at night for 2 months.
