FAQ Procedure

How Can I Benefit From Restylane®?

Restylane® has earned FDA approval and is effective in reducing moderate to severe folds and wrinkles on the face. With many years of use and more than 10 million treatments in more than 65 countries, Restylane has an unparalleled safety record. Because it is made from hyaluronic acid, a molecule that occurs naturally in our skin, allergy testing is not required. Restylane is a clear gel that is placed in or just beneath the surface following a topical local anesthetic, and Lidocaine can be added to the Restylane to further increase patient comfort during treatment. Discomfort after a procedure is minimal. However, redness or swelling may occur for 2 to 5 days.

How Long Does Restylane® last?

Results typically last 5 to 9 months. In some areas of the face, such as below the eyes or around the nose, we may see up to a year or more of effectiveness. Restylane is an excellent filler for nasolabial folds, tear troughs, and lips.

How Can I Benefit From Hyaluronic Acid Gel Filler With Added Lidocaine?

This treatment is beneficial for moderate to severe facial folds and wrinkles, such as the nasolabial folds (smile lines). It can also be used to add volume to the cheeks and back of the hands to promote a more youthful appearance. The results last between 12 and 18 months.

How Can I Benefit From Restylane® Lyft?

Restylane® Lyft with lidocaine, formerly marketed as Perlane-L®, is an injectable gel used to increase volume and smooth wrinkles. It is the first injectable of its kind to receive FDA approval for use in locations other than the facial area. Restylane Lyft is now being used to plump the back of the hands, which tend to lose volume with aging. It is also FDA-approved for cheek augmentation and correction of age-related midface contour deficiencies.

Are There Any Side Effects With Restylane® Lyft?

The most common adverse events after initial treatment include bruising, redness, swelling, pain, headache, tenderness, and itching.

Can Anyone Use Restylane® Lyft With Lidocaine?

Restylane® Lyft with lidocaine should not be used in people with a known allergy to lidocaine, patients under the age of 21, or people with severe allergies and bleeding disorders.

How Can I Benefit From JUVEDERM® SKINVIVE?

Juvederm Skinvive is the first of its kind for improving skin texture and smoothness in the cheek area. This hyaluronic acid injectable helps to increase skin hydration for up to about 6 months. If you are looking to improve skin hydration and smoothness in your cheeks, find out more about Skinvive.

What is JUVÉDERM® Volbella?

JUVÉDERM® Volbella is a dermal filler that achieves natural, instant results. This particular dermal filler is used for lip augmentation and is designed to add fullness to the lips, minimize lines around the mouth, and add lip contouring. Results may last up to one year, which is longer than many other dermal fillers.

Are There Any Side Effects With JUVÉDERM® Volbella?

Moderate side effects after treatment include bruising, redness, swelling, and pain or tenderness. This may be experienced for up to 5-7 days after treatment.

How Can I Benefit From JUVÉDERM® Ultra Plus XC?

JUVÉDERM Ultra Plus XC is a smooth, injectable gel with lidocaine that adds volume beneath the skin using hyaluronic acid, a molecule that occurs naturally in our skin. Water binds to these molecules, creating much of the volume we associate with youthful faces. As we age, the amount of hyaluronic acid present in our skin begins to decrease, contributing to a loss of volume and the formation of wrinkles. JUVÉDERM provides a smooth, natural look and feel and is the first FDA-approved dermal filler to be proven safe and effective for darker skin tones.

Where Can JUVÉDERM Be Used?

JUVÉDERM is an excellent treatment for fine lines and a natural lip volume. The Ultra Plus formulation is a thicker gel used for folds and creases around the nose and mouth. Patients may see a small amount of redness or swelling after treatment that subsides within a few days.

How Can I Benefit From JUVÉDERM VOLUMA® XC?

JUVÉDERM VOLUMA XC belongs to the JUVÉDERM family of injectable gel fillers and uses a hyaluronic acid formulation similar to JUVÉDERM Ultra Plus XC. However, this filler is specifically designed to add volume to the cheek area and is one of the first hyaluronic acid fillers to be FDA-approved for this purpose.

Are There Any Side Effects With JUVÉDERM VOLUMA XC?

Moderate side effects may be experienced for 2 to 5 days after injection, including swelling, redness, and bruising. Results may last up to 2 years with appropriate correction.

How Can I Benefit From Sculptra® Aesthetic?

Sculptra® Aesthetic is not a fast-acting injectable gel filler, but rather a series of injectable, wrinkle-reducing treatments using a synthetic, biodegradable material called poly-L-lactic acid. This is the same material used to make the dissolvable sutures frequently used in surgical procedures; it has been used for decades, and its ability to safely absorb into the body is very well established.

What Facial Concerns Does Sculptra® Aesthetic Treat?

This series of treatments are designed to address moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds and correct facial fat loss by gradually helping your skin regrow its collagen. It has been FDA-approved for these purposes. Treatments are typically administered about three weeks apart.

What Are The Side Effects Of Sculptra® Aesthetic?

Patients may experience swelling, redness, and bruising around the injection site for a few days after treatment. Results usually last two years but have been known to last longer.

How Can I Benefit From Injectable Treatments Using Poly-L-lactic Acid?

This treatment is ideal for treating contour deficiencies resulting from facial fat loss and is administered in a series. The results last two years or more.

What Can I Expect During My Dermal Fillers Procedure?

A topical anesthetic will be applied to maximize comfort during injection. The filler is injected into the treatment area using a very fine needle. Our skilled nurse injector strategically administers the correct amount to create a natural appearance.

What Can I Expect From Recovery And Healing With Injectable Fillers?

Dermal fillers require almost no downtime. Some redness, swelling, and a small amount of bruising at the injection site may occur during the first few days following treatment, but these symptoms are minor and subside quickly. Results are apparent after the first week for most injectables. Benefits last up to a year or two, depending on the filler.

Am I A Candidate For A Complete Makeover?

In our practice, we have seen enhanced results when injectable fillers are used in combination with wrinkle reducers such as BOTOX® Cosmetic and Dysport®. Most patients who are suitable candidates for dermal fillers or BOTOX® are also candidates for a complete makeover with injectables.

How Do Fillers Expand My Options For Cosmetic Improvements?

The FDA approval of injectable fillers for the face has allowed cosmetic surgery to expand beyond traditional surgical options. We now have an array of powerful new weapons in our fight against the folds and wrinkles that occur with aging. These new fillers provide us with a non-surgical way of smoothing, filling, and softening wrinkles and depressions of the face. As our patient photos illustrate, they can have a dramatic improvement in filling lines around the mouth, plumping the corners of the mouth to elevate the marionette lines, and augmenting the lips. Dermal fillers can not only enhance the results of cosmetic surgery, but in certain specific sites and indications, dermal fillers can accomplish what surgery cannot.

What Is Fat Grafting?

Injections performed with fat grafting have revolutionized facial cosmetic surgery. This treatment is one of Dr. Hubbard’s most common procedures. Its value as a tool to reverse aging and actually enhance beauty grows yearly. In certain areas of the face, the results can last decades. However, there remain isolated areas of the face where dermal fillers outperform fat grafting.

What Are Off-Label Injectable Fillers?

Current FDA approval includes moderate to severe facial wrinkles and localized fat loss in the face. However, there are many other safe and practical uses of dermal fillers that are known as "off-label." In our opinion and experience, however, these "off-label" uses are very safe and offer exciting results.

How Can Off-Label Fillers Improve The Appearance Of The Eyes?

A common off-label use for injectable fillers is as a treatment for hollowing under the eyes. Many women are bothered by dark "tear troughs" or under-eye areas and are surprised to learn the problem is often unrelated to skin pigment. An area of hollowness or fat loss can create a noticeable shadow beneath the eye. By plumping the depressed area with filler, the shadow is reduced, and the dark circles are significantly improved. Filler in this area can last more than a year.

How Can Off-Label Fillers Plump The Lips?

Plumping the lips with filler is another exciting application. In our opinion and experience, the safety and satisfaction rate with this procedure is higher than any other type of lip enhancement, and it is an excellent option for Chesapeake patients who desire fuller lips. Many women are amazed at how subtle the changes to the lips can be. Plumping the mouth corners to elevate and smooth the marionette lines is another very effective but less-common use of dermal fillers.
