It comes naturally for Dr. Hubbard to be extremely detail oriented and committed to the best possible surgical results for each patient at his cosmetic plastic surgery practice in Virginia Beach. However, Dr. Hubbard recognized early in his career that safety is of the utmost importance in the operating room. A full personal commitment from the surgeon establishes this culture of safety.

Find out more about Dr. Hubbard's commitment to safety or about our surgical suite by requesting a consultation online or calling (757) 687-1900.

Dr. Hubbard has had a relentless pursuit of safety throughout his career, and has dedicated his own personal time and effort that established this atmosphere in his practice. For the prevention of blood clots, Dr. Hubbard was one of the first plastic surgeons in Hampton Roads to routinely apply pneumatic compression devices on all abdominoplasty patients and to routinely anticoagulate certain cosmetic surgery patients. Dr. Hubbard instituted the pre-surgical announcements, which is a checklist of safety measures utilized prior to the start of any surgical case, even before many hospitals adopted this routine. Dr. Hubbard expanded on this safety measure by creating and implementing the "Hourly Check," which is done during surgery by all OR staff. He presented his idea to the peer-reviewed journal Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and it was published in February 2009. Safety in plastic surgery continues to improve specifically for those surgeons that attend operating room safety meetings, read and write the articles on this important topic and make the improvements that are recommended as advances are made.

Patients of Hubbard Plastic Surgery will find the safety, comfort and privacy they are looking for when they have their surgery performed in our adjoining surgery suite, The Aesthetic Center. The Aesthetic Center has been accredited by AAAHC, the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care Facilities. Each operating room is a state of the art facility, larger than 400 square feet, built and fully equipped to hospital standards. We are proud to be able to offer our patients this level of care and safety.

Why is the AAAHC accreditation important? The AAAHC Certificate of Accreditation demonstrates an organization's commitment to provide safe, high quality services to patients. The Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Healthcare founded in 1979 is the leader in ambulatory health care accreditation. Their purpose is to advance and promote patient safety, quality of care and measurement of performance. A private non-profit entity, it has developed a solid reputation as an advocate of high quality health care over a span of more than 30 years. More than 3600 ambulatory health care organizations across the United States area are accredited by AAAHC. Not all ambulatory health care organizations seek accreditation and not all undergoing the on-site survey are granted accreditation.

The survey process itself and the daily routines to uphold the standards of AAAHC has challenged our staff to find better ways to serve our patients, and it is a constant reminder that our first responsibility is to our patients and the quality of care we provide.
